A Spendid 18th Century Walnut Slant Front William and Mary Desk From Clossons
Item Details
A splendid early 18th century William and Mary slant front desk in Walnut with the original tag from the A.B. Closson, Jr. Co. still present in the top drawer. The slant front opens to reveal a fitted interior with 6 valanced pigeonholes in the center and three stepped drawers at each side. A panel at the back slides open to offer ‘secret’ storage for important documents or discreet correspondence. The three full length drawers at the bottom graduate in size and enjoys gorgeous chevron banding and wonderful incised brass hardware that appears to be original or at least of the period. The chest rests on squat ball feet at both the front and back and the very faded finish lends to the charm of the antique desk.
Condition
for age but in need of some restoration. The chest has been in sunlight which has faded the finish and the side boards each have a good sized vertical crack. Some loose trim, missing veneer, missing trim at pigeonholes, etc. Luckily, all hardware is present but no key.
Dimensions
, the desk measures 33" deep when opened.
