PRE-OWNED LUXURY TIMEPIECES
Find a Deal With Confidence
Navigating the pre-owned watch market is daunting, to the unfamiliar shopper the process can feel like you are surrounded by sharks in rough seas. What brand to purchase? Who should I buy from? When to buy? Steer clear of the unknowns and risk associated with trying to find a deal and keep the experience from becoming overwhelming by keeping a few key principles in mind.
Investigate the Value
Many times a motivating factor for choosing pre-owned is value. Understand the current market rate for a particular model by researching new and used versions on multiple sites. It is important to cross reference, prices are volatile based on trends and demand. Be on alert for inflated values.

Your Expectations
It is critical that you think ahead and try to identify your goals for the watch. Are you looking for a legacy piece to own forever, an investment watch or is your intent to trade-up after a period of time? Knowing what you want out of a timepiece will help you understand how to value it personally and financially.

Aware
Look for authentic wear and patina, not pristine refurbishment when examining a selection. Watch collectors seek originality over a piece that has been overly cared for and maintained through the years. The more times a watch receives maintenance, the more likely it has turned into a “Frankenwatch”. When interior or exterior parts have come from multiple sources or restorations it will have significantly less worth. Educate yourself on the details of the original design. Blemishes to the dial are far better than refinished or replica details. Be on the lookout for water stains on the dial. Water marks can be misinterpreted as patina but actually signals a likelihood that the moving parts have been exposed to moisture and could have rust.

Love It
Our final pointer and the rule that cannot be overlooked, buy what you like! If you get caught paying a little more, or you select a watch that isn’t 100% original, you will still be thrilled when you love what you are wear.
Go forth and shop confidently, pick-up a vintage watch that is unique and will spark conversation for years to come or add some breadth to your investment portfolio.
