Five Design Ideas Inspired By Urbane Bronze
As we look forward to next year and think about the home environment, we want to create for ourselves, EBTH is using Sherwin William’s color of the year Urbane Bronze as the perfectly neutral — but never boring — foundation for these five design ideas.
These styling tips from EBTH Co-founder Jacquie Denny prove that second-hand, vintage and antique items can enhance any home’s décor. For more than a decade, Denny has combined her background in market strategy with her passion for history to innovate how people see and interact with the resale market. From working alongside homeowners to contextualizing sales on EBTH.com, she has a firsthand understanding of how items and design come together.
1. Go Monotone
Don’t be afraid to layer similar tones for an elevated, moody environment. One of the great things about Urbane Bronze are its warm undertones that make a dark room still feel warm. Pair it with a similar-hued textile like this black-on-grey patterned Pendelton blanket designed by potter Maria Martinez.

2. Keep it Natural
Neutrals always play well together, even more so when you bring in natural elements like jute, wood, leather and terracotta. Items like this carved Rocky Mountain Maple box or a woven sisal are rug can work harmoniously with the charcoal Sherwin Williams hue to set the tone for a relaxing respite in even the most chaotic of times.

3. Play with Texture
Mix in shades of charcoal and grey utilizing different textures to create layers and dimension to your room design. When you have a color this multi-dimensional, playing with texture is only going to enhance its depth. Take for example these peacock blue Damask velvet drapes from the 1920s. Together with the Urbane Bronze, you’ll have rich and textured color palette that will look flawless.

4. Make Your Finds Shine
Use Urbane Bronze to paint behind floating shelves to create a contemporary backdrop for your treasures. Whether it’s a collection of leatherbound books, vintage pottery or a set of ornate Versace tableware much like a shadowbox, the dramatic charcoal hue will showcase your favorite items the way they deserve to be.

5. Get Industrial
Take inspiration from the metallic hue by bringing in some industrial touches like a bronze-hued fan or an industrial-inspired lighting fixture. The natural patina and character of a second-hand item keeps the look warm and welcoming.
